What Exactly is NLP?

NLP is short for Neuro-Linguistic Programming. But what exactly is Neuro-Linguistic Programming anyway? It was named this to describe the expansive scope and extensive body of knowledge around our beliefs and behaviours.

  • Neuro refers to how the mind and body interact

  • Linguistic refers to the insights into a person’s thinking that can be obtained by careful attention to their use of language

  • Programming refers, not to the activity of programming, but to the study of the thought and behavioural patterns or ‘programmes’ which people use in their daily lives.

NLP is a set of insights and skills which can enable you to actively use your mind and emotions to live your life more productively and to communicate with others more effectively.

NLP will enable you to:

  • Do the things that you do every day more effectively

  • Acquire skills and attitudes to accomplish feats that you never imagined you could d

  • Think much more clearly

  • Communicate in a much more effective way

  • Manage your mind – your thoughts, behaviours and moods more effectively

NLP is like the technology of the mind, the science of achievement and the study of peak performance. NLP teaches you how to model constructive behaviours from those who are elite performers. Some people excel in their chosen field, but many are just mediocre or average at best. So what is it that sets these high achievers apart from others? It is usually a mental attitude and internal unconscious strategies that make them successful.

Everybody thinks differently, and very few consider the perfect strategy to excel in a particular field. NLP teaches how to identify these skills and mindsets from top performers and learn them for yourself or teach them to others. Over time, for practitioners, NLP becomes a way of being. Many organisations (business, sports, etc.) use NLP techniques to help their employees and players perform at optimum levels.

Experience cannot be taught, but mental attitude can. If you, your organisation or your colleagues need a boost, then NLP is the way to go.
